Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Karie and I had a wedding Friday night in Denver and while she was finishing up the formals, I slipped out to grab the getaway car and snag my spot behind the limo, where Karie would be riding with the bride and groom. What a pleasant surprise when I exited the church to find a double rainbow - the brightest I had ever seen.

specular highlights

My friend, Misti, bought these fantastic glasses for me at Williams Sonoma because they are my favorite colors - Peacock. I knew I'd be using them to shoot one of my lighting 102 assignments (strobist.com), so when it came time to shoot something highly refective, I grabbed them and attempted to control my specular highlights. Don't I sound smart:)

Below are a couple of other objects I used for the assignment. I can't wait to get a second flash so I can really play around.

Memphis

I flew to Memphis for the weekend to visit Misti and Chris and to get a southern fix of bbq and blues. Here's a shot of Misti and I in front of her cute little house in Midtown.

Lee was able to fly in and meet us after his trip. We decided to do the touristy thing and visit Rendezvous for some ribs.

If you've ever been to Rendezvous, you know it's like a 2 hour wait on Saturday night. So to kill a little time, we played with the flash some more.

Here we are inside ... finally.

I should've gone for the full rack. I cleaned my plate.

I had Misti shoot while I held the flash and hung my head out the window ... now that I think about it, probably not the smartest thing to do in Memphis at night, but I managed to not catch any bullets. I'm still looking for a fun self portrait. Don't think this one is gonna make the cut, but I guess I just gotta keep experimenting.

We ate at Soul Fish - a new restaurant in Midtown. Fried catfish, hushpuppies and french fries, oh my ... I feel like I'm home again.

Beale street shots ...

And as it got later, it got more crowded ...

Here's the Maiser's sportin' her new shades.

And her Coach collar.

And finally ... naked Maisie!
It was nice to be back in the South - even if it was only a weekender.
